From the earliest beginnings of our company, Maple has been nurturing the skills of our people ― through training, apprenticeships and continuous personal development.

So, it is fitting that our latest project should be using these skills on a new apprentice training centre in Oxfordshire.

Oxford Advanced Skills is a skills training centre that allows technology businesses to offer young people apprenticeships. It is a partnership between the UK Atomic Energy Authority and the Science & Technology Facilities Council.

OAS opened in Culham in 2016 and are now pressing ahead with Phase 2 ― a 3,800 square metre purpose-built centre that will train up to 350 apprentices each year for the local high-tech hotspot.

Maple, meanwhile, will use its technological expertise to design, manufacture and supply a range of solar shading and weather protection systems.

Striking vertical fins, positioned to the side of individual windows, will protect offices on the east and west elevations from direct sun, while horizontal brise soleil blades will shade the glazed entrance area. Both systems, constructed in aluminium and powder-coated, will also contribute to the overall building aesthetic ― particularly the entrance, which will be framed in corporate red.

Maple’s project, which will involve close collaborations with Ridge Architecture and contractors Midas, also includes a roof-top louvred plant screen to protect equipment and machinery from the elements.

The new centre is due to open in September 2019.
